Richard Amatulli grew up in a racing family. His father drove in the AMOC (Aston Martin Owners Club) and Rich was always right there getting greasy and learning the ins and outs of motorcars.

In 1990 Rich bought a Chevy Beretta GT and began racing himself. After 4 years Rich decided the Beretta didn’t have enough power. He purchased a 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, knowing this car had the horsepower to compete. He was hooked! Rich has raced his Z on tracks including: Limerock, Pocono Raceway and Watkins Glen. Now we all know racing cars can be very expensive and so to compensate the costs Rich did his own maintenance and performance upgrading on his Z. Well the old saying goes “if you do it enough times, it becomes second nature.” Well between motor pulls, rebuilds and upgrades Rich has seen and done it all.

Rich’s brother Chris also has the fever only in form of a Mini Cooper. He has taken part in building the “Worlds fastest Mini Cooper” with Fireballed Racing and has built the world fastest street Mini Cooper for himself.

Rich continues to race with the PDA group out of NJ and is involved in the NEZC (New England Z Club). He has worked on quite a few of the members Z’s including Norm’s and Kitty’s. Norman Snell is Rich’s partner in RDZ and Kitty (or Linda), secretary and bookkeeper of RDZ. Rich is very meticulous with his work and has a lifetime of experience in this field. He comes with many referrals and a lot of satisfied customers. In 2002 Rich developed a stainless steel engine bolt kit for the 300ZX and the 350Z's engine bay. Whether for looks, more power, or to just simplify a complicated situation, he never stops thinking of ways to develop and improve these amazing cars.

For Norm and Kitty it all began with a 1981 280ZX turbo that Kitty purchased from a woman who lived up the road from her. We could not believe the power this little car had. A year later Norm purchased a 1980 280ZX from California, and Kitty purchased another 1980 280ZX from Florida. Both in mint condition. The Z fever began to grow… They learned as much as they could about these sporty little gems. They both worked on their own cars as much as possible. Finding a garage capable of maintenance on these cars was nearly impossible, never mind upgrades.

Eventually Norm & Kitty wanted more horsepower than these could give them with the modifications that they did. So they sold them and each bought 300 TT’s. Norm bought a 1991 300ZX TT and shortly thereafter Kitty bought a 1990 300ZX TT. They were hooked. The power these newer Z’s had impressed them. Now they learned as much as they could about this new generation of Z. Norm, being the speed freak that he is…. (MAN), wanted to upgrade his car to go faster. He bought a new motor from Z1 in Georgia. And because many garages are not familiar with this car, ran into many problems with the reinstallation of the motor. No one could get it to run right.

At a NEZC club meet late in 2005 Norm met Rich Amatulli. Many people call Rich for advice on their cars from all over the North East. Norm finally brought his car to Rich. But not until spending countless hours, dollars and time with people and garages, who really didn’t know what to do with the car. Nissan dealerships won’t even look at them, let alone work on them.

Rich had the car for about 1 month, and now it purrs like a kitten. (Had Norm only known him in the beginning!) It takes a master of the trade to get it done right, the first time!

We’ve met and talked with many Z Nuts in the NE area and discovered that the Z is as popular as ever. But it’s also hard to find someone reliable or who knows anything about these cars in this area to work on them. So Norm and Rich decided to start their own Z specialty shop for all those Z freaks up North, and thus began the start of RDZ!

So with Norm’s knack for business (over 20 yrs) and Rich’s knowledge of the mechanical aspect of the Z inside and out and Kitty’s organizational skills and business sense, we here at RDZ are ready to service all Z customers with their Z needs and make them feel confident with who is working on their cars!
